As you age, the muscles and ligaments in your foot can become sore and inflamed from overuse and also from wearing of improper shoes. When your foot arch becomes sore from either plantar fasciitis or another injury, there are several ways you can treat the pain and help your foot heal. Here are some tips to help you do this.
Change or Modify Your Footwear
Many times the type of shoes you are wearing can put excess pressure on the tendons running through your foot and cause pain. Make sure you avoid wearing shoes with a high heel, which can put extra pressure on your foot arch. If you must wear heeled shoes, choose shoes that have a more reasonable heel. Your shoes should also be comfortable with a soft leather upper portion and a heel that absorbs the shock from walking and standing.
If you wear running shoes for a running workout, be sure to replace your shoes with new ones every few months. The soles and supportive material of the shoe can become worn out, leaving your foot exposed to the pressure from the pavement while you run.
You can buy a shoe insert to wear inside your shoes for added support, or see your doctor about getting a custom fit shoe insert orthotic to help give your arch this required support. There are shoe orthotics designed to fit under the ball of your foot or the heel, depending on your needs and to help reduce your foot inflammation.
Along with changing out your footwear, there are natural remedies you can use to help with your foot pain. Clove oil is a great natural oil you can use on your foot, as it helps with pain when you rub it on the affected areas. Clove oil relaxes your muscles and boosts the circulation beneath the skin, which helps reduce inflammation. You can rub clove oil onto your foot several times each day.
Placing ice on your foot can be helpful to help reduce the pain and inflammation. Then try alternating the hot and cold treatments to find further help. To do this, place your foot in a bowl of cold water for several minutes. Next place your foot in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes. Repeat this process until you feel relief from the pain in your foot arch.
